MichCanSka,
Snowmobiling for a Diabetes Free Tomorrow
This is our GPS data store for the trip. Files listed below include
the trip logs and waypoints. They will be updated as Group 1 progresses
through the trip.
There are files for various flavors of GPS. Instructions are linked
for each one. If you are participating with the event, understand
that your GPS may or may not work with this data and it's best to
have it sorted well in advance.

Day Notes:
Day 12: Group 1 rode some rivers and lakes, low snow, most loaded
up and trailered from Slave Lake, some rode the remaining way along
the highway (rough).
Day 11: Group 1 trailered due to lack of snow. Pete thought there
may be enough snow along the highway for ditch-banging, but it would
be rough. Track follows the highway that they trailered on.
Day 10: Track based on SPOT points; Looks like they trailered from
Meadow Lake based on SPOT data, post on site indicates low snow conditions.
Trail conditions and local contact information here: https://www.sasksnowmobiling.sk.ca/snowcond.htm.
Day 9: Track for Day 8/9 is Group 1's course. 250+ miles.
Day 8: Track is based on SPOT info from Group 1, not received tracks
from Group 1 yet. 175+ Miles.
Day 7: Tracks for Day 6/7 are from Group 1. Group 1 Guide took a
few scenic rides on part of course, but should have track cleaned
up with those sections scrubbed. Gas stations marked, as with other
days, in this file. 165+ Miles
Day 6: No word
from Group 1, but can see they made it to Russel by SPOT info. Track
data is drawn in based on their SPOT messages and should be "close
enough" to
follow. Group 1 was trailering into Canada and rode from the border
or just north of the border. By the way, Larry's SPOT, which was
lost on Day 6, last checked in BEFORE reaching the motel (he could
have turned it off immediately upon arrival meaning it made it further
than this point below). N48.77155 W96.94428; 220+ Miles
Day 5: Group 1's track is directly west of motel into North
Dakota. Believe, from conversation with Pete, they should have went
north from motel and then into North Dakota. Group 1's course is
Day5 and Day5B. Optional "north from motel" track is Day5alt
which connects with Group 1's course. Note the path through ND is
NOT a marked trail, but has been groomed by the DNR just for MichCanSka.
Group 1 was recommending lodging in Rolla and not the Casino as originally
planned. Bilmar Motel may be an option (701) 477-3157.
Day 4: Group 1's course heads south from motel vs north (as originally
plotted on GPS), then generally follows proposed course to motel.
Lunch recommended in Leonard. 287 Miles. Group 2's course has
them 90 miles beyond Grand Rapids to Bemidji, but otherwise will
be on the same route as Group 1.
Day
3: Group 2 opted to skip the planned motel in Grand Rapids and continued
on to Bemidji. 260 miles for the day, putting them much closer to
Day 4's motel (~250 to motel vs Group 1's 300 miler). Group 1's track
is Day3 and Day3B. Group 2's alternate route is Day3alt. The alternate
is just passed Hwy 169, about straight south of Grand Rapids; basically
stay on the RR Grade instead of hopping onto the trail to head north
to Grand Rapids.
Day 2: Group 1's course
taken to Casino, north shortly after Hurley is a dead end at the
Casino; sleds were trailered to motel from Casino. Track log to Casino
is labeled "Day2Casino". Alternate trail all the way to
the motel is labeled "Day2Motel". The path splits just
west of Hurley, north is to the casino, west/southwest is to the
motel. Group 2 took the Day2Motel track all the way to the motel.
Day 1: Path
taken leaves marked trail in several sections using county roads,
forest roades/RR grades and frozen lakes.
The files above include the last
4 previous days. For
example, Day 2 will include Day 1 as well as Day 2's track. These
are the actual tracks from the lead group.
